A celebration of life will be held this summer in Keene Valley, New York for Robert “Bob” March, 83, of Woodstock, who passed away peacefully at home on March 15 while battling renal failure.
He was born on May 22, 1932 in Philadelphia, son of Margaret Ash March and Albert Paul March.
Bob attended Germantown Friends School and Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia and went onto Haverford College where he majored in Chemistry and graduated in 1954. He graduated from Harvard Business School in 1956. He served for four years in the Naval Reserve from 1951-1955.
Bob married his college sweetheart, Patricia “Penny” Derr on July 10, 1954 upon graduation from college. They shared 61 years of marriage and three children, Elizabeth “Bitsy” March Harley of Reading, Margaret “Pegg” (Richard) Hislop of Park City, Utah and Paul March of Skillman, New Jersey; seven grandchildren and great-granddaughter dearly miss their grandpa; Dunham (Alyssa) Hislop, Morgan (Whitaker) Irvin, Albert Harley, Emma Harley, Lily Hislop, Abby March, Holly March and Clover Harley.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Bob worked throughout New England for American Cyanamid before moving to Vermont full time in 1971. He owned and operated an employment agency in Rutland for many years, prior to selling ski resort real estate. A voracious reader, Bob also loved skiing and golfing, poker and blackjack, the Red Socks and Patriots. Bob especially enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and golfing in Hilton Head. He was known for his quick wit and hearty laugh. Bob was a kind and generous man who loved his family.
